A site that bears witness to the history of a prominent Avignon family and to architecture that has been continuously remodeled since the 15th century.Former Baroncelli-Javon Mansion, Flandreysy-Espérandieu Foundation. For five centuries, from 1469 to 1908, the Baroncelli family, originally from Florence, occupied this Gothic residence, which was converted in the 17th century into a private mansion and named the “Palais du Roure” by Frédéric Mistral in the 19th century.
Today it serves as a center for Mediterranean culture, with a special focus on Provence, its history, traditions, language, and literature. It houses an important collection of bells assembled by Jeanne de Flandreysy.
